Walking around in Kashgar, especially in the old town, one thing you'll notice are the kids. They're constantly underfoot-- boisterous, outgoing, and photogenic, just asking (sometimes literally) to be photographed. Most of the kids are Uighur, though all over Kashgar are Kazakhs, Kyrgyz and Uzbeks, and my Central-Asian-Peoples eye is nowhere near sophisticated enough to tell the difference. Striking blue eyes everywhere, though - just another reminder that you're so far to the west of the Far East, that you're almost on the east side of the West.
